
Philip Eames
Piano, Composition
Australian pianist and composer Philip Eames is currently based in Sydney, Australia. Philip studied piano under Max Olding and Stephen Savage at the Queensland Conservatorium and Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. He holds two Masters degrees in music and most recently was awarded his PhD, focusing on the choral music of Percy Grainger. He is currently a musicology lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium.
In terms of his pianistic career Philip has performed both as concerto and recital soloist and chamber musician internationally, being a featured artist of the Ligeti Academy in the Netherlands, and has appeared in concert at Wigmore Hall and Bridgewater Hall. Most notably, Philip performed as soloist with the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra as a piano finalist in the ABC Young Performers Awards.
As a composer he was announced the winner of the 2013 Tagore Composition Competition, awarded first place in the 2010 ASKM Composition Competition, and has had his compositions performed internationally. Philip was also a featured composer in New Music New York, Making Waves and the Music Box Project and has also received a wide range of commissions and collaborations including Collusion Music, the Australian National Piano Award, and The Australian Voices.
