Jonathan is a pianist, violinist, teacher and pharmacist. He began piano at the age of twelve and violin at the age of eight. Throughout his studying years and professional career as a pharmacist, he has always pursued and developed his love of music and now happily spends almost all his time as a musician.
Jonathan joined the musical arts ensemble Collusion as pianist in November 2008 and since then has enjoyed performing and touring with the ensemble around Queensland and Northern NSW. In 2009, Collusion performed at Jimbour House for Musica Viva Countrywide, the North Queensland Music Centre (Townsville) and as the "Stars of Tomorrow" at the Bangalow Music Festival. As a core member (violin) of the string orchestra Camerata of St John's since September 2008, Jonathan has toured to the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and will return again this year as well as numerous concert series performances. Camerata of St John's will also tour to Western Queensland this year.
Jonathan has a love of chamber music and is in demand as a chamber musician performing and collaborating with numerous chamber ensembles in Brisbane. In 2009 Jonathan was selected as pianist and violinist on the 11th 4MBS Classic FM Concerts Cruise. Jonathan was Artistic Co-ordinator of the Chamber Music in the Old Museum concert series 2004 - 2006 performing regularly on piano and also as Director and first violinist of ensemble in residence The Energy Quartet. In 2004, Jonathan was selected to participate in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Keyboard Program under the tuition and guidance of Lisa Moore in Canberra. As the pianist in the new music ensemble MERCURY 2002-2005, Jonathan collaborated with and premiered numerous works by Australian composers including Paul Stanhope, Gerard Brophy, Peter Rankine, Andrew Ford and the composer collective NovaSonus. Jonathan was awarded the Sid Paige Memorial Prize for chamber music in 2001.
Jonathan performed a solo recital in the 2008 Restrung festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse where he played piano, violin and violin with his own pre-recorded piano accompaniment works by Frederic Rzewski, Philip Glass, John Adams and Arvo Pärt. In 2006 Jonathan toured as piano and violin soloist and concertmaster with the Queensland Youth Symphony’s chamber orchestra performing Graeme Koehne’s Capriccio for Piano and String Orchestra and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending.
Jonathan has years of experience and is in demand as an accompanist for instrumental and vocal musicians at Symphony Australia’s Young Performer Awards, University of Queensland and Queensland Conservatorium recitals and AMEB/Trinity College examinations. Jonathan also has extensive orchestral and touring experience having played violin/piano/celeste with:- Queensland Youth Symphony (concertmaster 2006; touring nationally and internationally to Germany, Italy, Austria, South Korea); Australian Youth Orchestra; Bangalow Festival Chamber Orchestra; BONYI Southern Cross Soloists chamber orchestra; Gold Coast Symphony Orchestra.
As an educator, Jonathan currently holds a piano/theory teaching position at St Margaret's Anglican Girls School, piano/strings position at St Joseph's Nudgee College and runs his own private teaching studio. Jonathan regularly tours and performs as part of the Musicia Viva In Schools program inspiring and educating school children throughout Queensland and will tour to the Mackay/Whitsundays region later this year. Jonathan was the piano tutor with the Southern Cross Soloists at the 2009 Sunwater Youth Music Festival (Biloela) and has also tutored for the Queensland Youth Orchestras and Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra.
Jonathan appeared as violin soloist with ARIA award-winning band The Cat Empire at the Iwaki Auditorium in 2007. He since toured nationally with the band in 2008 and appears on their latest CD/DVD release “Live On Earth” and “Live at the Bowl”. In the same year he performed with the band at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay appearing on Channel Ten’s Video Hits. Jonathan performed with ARIA nominated singer-songwriter Lior at the Brisbane Powerhouse in 2009. Jonathan has also performed with artists such as The Whitlams, John Foreman and Kate Miller-Heidke.
