Elise May is an independent Brisbane- based dance artist who has an interest in choreographic, video, installation and time/space – based approaches to movement and the body. Elise has worked as a performer, teacher & choreographer with Expressions Dance Company’s Dance in Education Program, Queensland University of Technology, Clare Dyson, Chrissie Parrot, Cheryl Stock, Andrew Corey, Mariana Verdaasdonk, Wendy Morrow and ‘Bonemap’ (Rebecca Youdell & Russell Milledge). Elise represented Australia in the Asian Young Choreographer’s Project (World Dance Alliance – in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan 2005). In 2006, Elise performed in Brisbane Festival work “Accented Body”, and as part of Mariana Verdaasdonk’s PhD research project ‘The Living Lens’ and also worked with Director Andrew Cory and composer Robert Clark on Callesthesia a work for Collusion Music Ensemble’s Evocations season at the Brisbane Powerhouse. In 2006 Elise was recipient of the Australia Council ‘Take Your Partner’ initiative for the creative development of a solo performance installation work entitled “Dare You Look”.
Elise presented a choreographic workshop presentation at the World Dance Alliance -Asia Pacific Bridge Conference in Singapore in 2007 and collaborated with Bonemap in their production TiLT as part of the “On Edge” Contemporary Media and Performance Festival. Elise has been commissioned to choreograph a new work for Expressions Dance Company’s ‘Core Borders’ program, and will join Expressions as a dancer in May, for their 2008 season “On Thin Ice”.
