Gareth Belling began dance studies in Sydney at Alegria before joining Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year program in 2000. He entered the company in 2002 and has since danced in all productions. Gareth’s roles include the King of Hearts in François Klaus’s Alice in Wonderland, the Fisherman in The Little Mermaid and Pierrot in The Nutcracker. Gareth most recently performed the role of 'Bottom' in Francois Klaus's 'A Midsummer Nights Dream. He has also danced in works by Natalie Weir, Timothy Brown and Young Soon Hue. Gareth has toured extensively with the company, performing in regional, inter-state and international tours.
Gareth made his choreographic debut in Collusion's Evocations 2005. His most recent work featured in Collusion’s French Twist in November 2007. Comprising two works Variations and Twist, it saw him create works on the Queensland Ballet’s Professional Year dancers for the first time.
Return Economy Class, Gareth’s collaboration with composer Joseph Twist and Collusion premiered in Evocations 2006 – A Matter of Movement. A work for dancer, violinist and soprano, this was Gareth’s first ballet to a commissioned score.
His choreography for Queensland Ballet includes Sheer Nylon Dances, Mourning Song and his most recent creation Urban Myths have all been performed with members of Collusion in Queensland Ballet’s ‘Studio Series – Vis-à-vis’. Other works include 'Hello?’ with Timothy Brown, and Three Miniatures. His ballet 'Run' was performed on QB’s 2006 regional Queensland Tour.
He created 'Steps Travelled: Mumbai' for February's Vis-a-vis- Series One. A work in progress, Gareth hopes to develop this work further with Queensland Ballet.
